ONE18 EMPIRE celebrates spring with new outdoor patio space

Published on

Spring has sprung and it’s time to enjoy some sunshine outdoors. ONE18 EMPIRE is getting in on the springtime action with a new outdoor patio space and a fresh seasonal cocktail list to match the sunny mood.

ONE18 EMPIRE’s new patio is located right on Centre Street with one of the best views of the Calgary Tower in town.

True to ONE18 EMPIRE’s love of all things whiskey, the patio features tables made from whiskey barrels and special whiskey cocktails that can be ordered only for the patio.

The “Sweet Tea Cocktails” available on the patio keep it light and refreshing while offering a nod to iconic locations in southern Alberta’s great outdoors.

These include the Blackfoot, with black tea, Jim Beam Black Label whiskey, blackberries, honey-sage syrup and lemon, as well as the Crow’s Nest Pass, with Passion fruit tea, Jim Beam Devil’s Cut whiskey, mango puree and mint. The Grassi Lakes features green tea, Canadian Club Chairman rye, cucumber and lime juices and honey sage syrup. As always, juices at ONE18 EMPIRE are freshly squeezed and syrups are made in house.

Patio patrons can also order snacks and shareables from ONE18 EMPIRE’s food menu, which has been lightened up for spring with additions such as cauliflower bites and calamari.

Both outside and inside, ONE18 EMPIRE guests can now enjoy a newly revamped cocktail menu to match the weather, with 10 new concoctions.. These offer a delicious way to celebrate the season as well as offer tribute to Calgary’s past.

New menu additions include the William Lemyhr, with Bulleit bourbon, Dubonnet, St. Germaine Elderflower and Fernet Branca. As with many of the cocktails at ONE18 EMPRE, this one offers a story. It’s named after an early 20th-century patron of the Grand Central Bar who threatened to shoot up the place because he was refused a drink. Luckily, his gun was unloaded the entire time so no actual violence occurred.

Another new option on the menu is the Gold Rush, celebrating the stories from a time when would-be prospectors came through Calgary on their way to find riches up north. With Glenmorangie 10 Year, Domaine de Canton, lemon juice and honey sage syrup, this cocktail offers rich flavor and is garnished with gold flakes to make it worthy of its name.

There’s also the ’86, commemorating Calgary’s great fire of 1886, which destroyed many buildings but did not result in any injuries or deaths. Both fiery and refreshing, the ’86 is made of Buffalo Trace whiskey, watermelon and jalapeno mint syrup.

Ready for some seasonal sipping? ONE18 EMPIRE’s 10-seat patio opens daily at 10 a.m., weather permitting.
